3D printing of light metal-BNNT composites for aerospace and defence applications
In collaboration with Deakin’s nanotechnology group, we reported a world‐first 3D printed Boron Nitride Nanotube (BNNT) reinforced titanium matrix composite, which was displayed at the Australian International Airshow and Aerospace & Defence Exposition in 2017. We have found the BNNTs can significantly refine the prior β grain structure in the additive manufactured Ti‐6Al‐4V and lead to remarkable reinforcement.
